Me and my boys try to visit our loved one in prison as often as possible, but because the gas prices are so high and he is more than 400 miles away, many times we have to settle for letters. Phone calls are not very frequent because they "cost an arm and a leg".

My daughter has not seen her father since she was 7 and she is now 13 - We live in Atlanta and he is housed in the state of Texas - Driving is OUT of the question and I don't have the funds for plane tickets so we settle on letters and very few calls do to the way the State of Texas Correctional Facility allows there inmates to acquire telephone privileges.
Coping - What a word? Our coping has become life and we are not doing a very good job of that right now. I keep telling myself that this too shall pass, but I don't want it to be too late for my daughter.

Update: I would like to update that since my last post, I was able to take my daughter and her brother to see their father a couple of months ago.
My daughter's father is now in the Innerchange Program in Houston, TX. He is still incarcerated, but the Innerchange Program is a faith based rehabilitaion program for offenders that they can enter while serving their time. Anyway, the program put together A Day with Dads event which was a really great event. Even though the cost was expensive for us to make the trip, I felt that it was important that both my daughter and her brother see their father. And the visit went well.
They got answers to a lot of their unanswered questions, they were able to really spend like 8 hours with their Dad and it has made a big difference in both of their lives.
