My Vision

"Many people ask me why I named this organization Yellow Brick Roads. I thought long and hard before coming up with this name. Then one night as I was falling asleep I started to think about the movie “The Wizard of Oz.” I remembered how, as a child, I used to watch the movie every chance I got. Back then I didn’t think about the deeper meaning that I would later assign to ‘the Yellow Brick Road.’ When I was a child the Yellow Brick Road symbolized the path to a special place, a magical place; a safe haven. Never mind Toto, Tin Man, Scarecrow or the Cowardly Lion, I knew that if I could only get on the Yellow Brick Road, I would run as fast as I could to find the Wizard of Oz and ask him to get my mommy and daddy out of jail and bring them back home to me. As I got older I attached a deeper meaning to the Yellow Brick Road: It is the path that a person follows to self-realization. This road is never easy and there are always obstacles, but with the support and guidance of others, we can all achieve those things that we have envisioned for ourselves no matter where we are or where we came from. It’s this philosophy that I hope to instill in children around the world who are facing the cruel and lonely reality of parental incarceration. I hope that my vision is embraced by others as well."
